The Bunny Kennel

A murky dream. I was in a hotel, I think. I knew no one there, but was responsible for a variety of bunnies. I had two bunnies wrapped in bags, kind of tightly wrapped, like containers of take out food. I left these two bunnies sitting on an outdoor shelf, like a potting shed shelf, for a while - I had to tend to something else. When I returned to the shelf, the bags were still wiggling, so I knew the bunnies were alive. I took the bunnies to the Bunny Kennel, a large outdoor kennel, with containers like egg cartons that the bunnies slept in. There were several other bunnies - all black - already in the kennel. I unwrapped the bunnies and deposited them in the bunny kennel. To my surprise, one bunny was in a white egg, a huge chicken egg. As I placed the egg in its container, it hatched - a black bunny streaming with egg yolk. I left the bunnies again, but must have left the kennel door open. When I returned, the bunnies were all dead, perhaps killed by a dog. I picked the bunnies up, their bodies stiff by now, and gently placed them in paper bags (shopping bag size) and put them in the trash.

Comments: "The Bunny Kennel" is a dream from a woman who has small children and is balancing motherhood and career. She was distressed by the imagery in the dream, especially since she thought the bunnies represented her children, and that she wasn't taking care of them as she should. (The standard fear-and-guilt response of working mothers everywhere.) I told her that I wondered if there might not be another interpretation. Both rabbits and eggs are often symbols for the "creative" instincts - for the part of us which expresses and renews us. I asked her what she was doing about herself, and about her own creative needs. She immediately got the wide-eyed, stricken look that often tells us we've made a direct hit! While she was "tending to something" (like family and job) all these creative parts of herself were "deposited . . . in the bunny kennel" (put into storage) where they died and had to be thrown away. Her favorite creative outlet had always been writing, and now there was never time for it. I suggested - strongly - that she take some steps to save the bunnies. She had previously been following a suggestion from "The Artist's Way" where she wrote "morning pages" every day, so I suggested that she start coming to work about 15 minutes early and use that time every workday to write.

The Display Gallery

My husband and I were in this building which looked like it was an art gallery/ museum type of place. It was quiet, secluded and situated in a parkland setting beside a lake. The sky was blue, the building was a mixture of glass and concrete. It was very modern. I've been there before. When looking out the floor to ceiling window at the front of the place, we could see a large weeping willow, planted between the building and the lake. The lady who manages this display is just a character within the scene - she's not important per se. Anyway, we were to let the display gallery rent a large, old, finely decorated, yellow-brown leathergrain covered book from us. It was all my idea, because we didn't need it and it really was an exquisite book. Very special to everyone. She wasn't comfortable with a donation of something so preciously exquisite so I agreed to let them rent it from us for $1.00 per year, with an increase bi-annually equivalent to the rise in the cost of living. The book was like an atlas but with a hell of a lot more information in it. I remember thinking that they may be interested in the large atlas I have at home by Readers Digest.

Comments: This dream came from a woman who found me on the Web and asked for some comments on her dream. I responded that I thought it might be a spiritual dream because of the beauty of the setting and because of the incredible value of this rare and exquisite book. The most valuable, rare, and exquisite part of us that I know of is the Soul. Unfortunately, although she gave permission to post her dream here, I haven't heard back from her whether the comments rang true for her or not.
